Doria (pictured in color Sol #KC111-03) was inspired by traditional embroidered Tenango fabrics made by the Otomi people from Tenango de Doria, in the highlands of Mexico. These beautiful embroideries depict the flora and fauna of the area in stylized form with bright colors. Originally used for clothing, these designs are still embroidered today for tablecloths, bedspreads, pillowcases and other decorative items.
Our interpretation of these fabrics focuses more on the “wrong” side of the fabric which is not meant to be seen. The result is an embroidered line drawing of the Otomi-inspired pattern rather than full-coverage textile. Provided below is some additional information on where to buy beautiful Otomi Tenango accessories for your home and benefit the creators of these beautiful embroideries.
