In the late 1800s, infusions of flowers and fruit in spirits were quite common as quality varied widely in those days. It was Edouard Cointreau, a visionary shop owner from Angers, France, who sought out to create something exceptional and unique, he was inspired by his travels across Europe. He perfected over months a recipe that blended four different types of oranges and able to create the crystal-clear Cointreau that we know today. The French distillery created a spirit so distinct —fast forward nearly 150 years, Cointreau has become a timeless staple in classic cocktails like the Margarita and Cosmopolitan.
